On Friday Nov. 21, 2014 the Super Mo-rio Brothers threw their annual fundraiser at the Old Mill Boathouse in Port Moody, B.C. to raise money for prostate cancer in the spirit of Movember. The organizing crew began its journey as friends while working for the Boathouse Restaurant in Port Moody, across the street from this years event venue.
The annual fundraising event began three years ago and has been going strong since. Last year, the team raised about $3,000 and this year they were able to raise close to $5,000. The Mo-Rios hope that the event will continue to grow and that they will gather even more community support so that they can keep raising money for the cause.
This year’s key organizers included Kurt Woodman (host), Jill Noort (bartender) and Kalee Ruhmor (DJ). They were supported by volunteers who have been coming out every year to lend a hand at the bar, sell tickets, and organize the raffle draws. The event has grown and diversified from being mainly a friends and family social, to including much of the local community. With drinks, hot dogs, toonie tosses, raffles and live entertainment- there’s something for everybody.
